I'm glad I found this forum. I'm a professor of English specializing in science fiction and horror. My critical study of Lovecraft was published by Borgo/Wildside Press last summer. Feel free to ask me any "scholarly" questions. Can't always guarantee answers, but I'll do my best.
Hi! Just stumbled onto this site, and have thoroughly enjoyed lurking through it, and posting a bit!
I'm an older fan (59), and also a Presbyterian minister, grew up in NC and currently based in Virginia Beach, moving around doing interim work. Have been reading HPL since I was a young teen. Love macabre fiction, and have ever since I read Poe when I was eleven. It's HPL's cosmicism that sparks my interest, as it does for Machen, Blackwood and a few others (like Caitlin Kiernan and, a bit by Laird Barron). It's fascinating to me to think/discuss the differences/similarities of HPL's cosmic indifferentism and the sense of awe/fear promulgated in some theologies and mystics, along with Jungian thinkers meditating on transcendence, the development of consciousness, the Great Mother, and the 'shadow' side of all this, which to me is so Lovecraftian!
Of course I love the classics like James, Le Fanu, Benson and the Weird Tales group, e.g. Howard, Wellman, Leiber, Bloch and especially Ray Bradbury!!!! Man, will I ever miss this master!!!!!
Fellow Cultist Dr. Anderson in N. Miami: would love to chat with you about HPL and Bradbury someday!!!
